Dealing with shock and surgery naturally

star of bethlehem flowerI recently had a friend ask for some help after finding out she had breast cancer and was scheduled for a mastectomy.

I always recommend the Bach flower essence Star of Bethlehem for anyone undergoing surgery, particularly women; it helps with the after affects of shock, bad news or disappointments both on an emotional level and a physical level.  So it’s one of the first remedies I recommended.   Star of Bethlehem can be found in the well know combination Bach Rescue Remedy, this can be used as a prophylactic before a stressful event, such as surgery or visiting the doctor, and it’s useful for the family members supporting the cancer patients to.  Rescue Remedy will help to reduce fear and anxiety by calming the nervous system.  A qualified Homeopath or Bach Flower Practitioner will be able to make up combination remedies specifically to your needs.

There’s a wide range of homeopathic remedies useful for speeding up the recovery following surgery:

Arnica – useful for fear, shock, anxiousness, restlessness, supports the blood vessels, tissues and muscles to aid healing

Calendula – to assist with the healing of wounds and cuts, rapid healing of the skin

Phosphorus – if suffering from vomiting following an anaesthetic

Nux Vomica – nausea and symptoms better with vomiting after an anaesthetic or treatment
