Is sleep playing havoc with your hormones?

Are you getting 7-8 hours sleep every night, if you’re not then you are doing your body no favours. A lack of sleep and sleeping at irregular times can mess up your hormone balance.

Your hormones work on a schedule, the stress hormone cortisol is regulated around midnight. So if you’re one of those people who goes to bed late every night you never really give your body a break from the sympathetic flight or fight stress response.

3am If you’re waking up between 1-3am you might want to look at ways to help your liver detox, having a clean liver will help with period and menopause symptoms too.

Or do you wake at 3am? Energy passes through the lungs between 3-5am, so if you’re lungs aren’t functioning properly you will often find this time is a major aggravation for lung symptoms.

Ideally you should be going to bed by 10pm to maximize your hormone function. Some experts believe that just one hour of sleep between 10pm and 2am is the equivalent of 2 hours of sleep before or after these time slots.

Melatonin is linked with an increased quality of sleep at night. A tasty way to boost your melatonin levels is by incorporating melatonin-rich foods into your daily diet.
